Ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensors are advanced devices that apply ultrasonic detection technology to gaseous media. The most significant advantage of this sensor over traditional wind cup or rotor anemometers is that it has no mechanical rotating parts, thus enabling inertia-free measurements. This feature makes the ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensor able to accurately capture the high-frequency components of gust pulsations in natural winds, which, combined with the support of modern computer technology, helps to reveal the characteristics of natural winds at a higher level, which is of great significance for enhancing the ability of wind mitigation and the rational use of wind resources.
The propagation speed of ultrasonic waves in air is affected by air flow (wind). When the ultrasonic wave propagation direction is the same as the wind direction, its speed will be accelerated; on the contrary, it will be slowed down. Therefore, under fixed detection conditions, there is a functional relationship between the propagation speed of ultrasonic waves in air and wind speed, and accurate data on wind speed and direction can be derived through precise calculations.
It is worth mentioning that the propagation speed of acoustic waves in air is strongly influenced by temperature. However, since the ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensor detects two opposite directions on two channels simultaneously, the effect of temperature on the speed of the sound waves is effectively cancelled out and does not significantly affect the measurement results.
Due to the lack of mechanical rotating parts, this sensor is free from mechanical wear, blockage, freezing, etc., as well as the limitations of "mechanical inertia". Therefore, it is not only able to measure the conventional wind speed (average wind speed), but also can capture the wind speed component in any direction, and especially can accurately measure the high-frequency pulsation component of the wind speed.
Therefore, ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensors have a broad application prospect in the field of modern meteorological monitoring and wind energy utilisation due to their high accuracy, no mechanical rotating parts and the ability to measure high-frequency pulsation components.

The Foliage Temperature and Humidity Sensor is a highly accurate measurement tool specifically designed to accurately monitor moisture levels on plant leaves, including tiny water or ice crystals. The shape of this sensor mimics a real leaf, a design that allows it to more realistically simulate and...
how does a rain gauge work? Placed in an open area, it is measured based on the height of the precipitation that has accumulated in the container at a given time, and the change in rainfall over time is recorded....
Greenhouses are a highly enclosed agricultural production environment, where the moisture required for crop growth is entirely dependent on artificial irrigation, as natural rainfall cannot be utilised directly. In greenhouses, soil moisture monitoring is a common method to guide irrigation.Crops ca...
