Water Depth and Temperature Detector is a portable device that utilizes the principle of acoustic reflection to measure water depth. It is capable of measuring both water depth and temperature in static water as well as in flowing water with velocities not exceeding 5 meters per second. It is suitable for use in a wide variety of aquatic environments, including reservoirs, lakes, rivers, and shallow coastal waters.
Water Depth and Temperature Detector is a portable instrument that employs the principle of acoustic reflection to determine water depth; it is widely utilized in hydrological surveys and navigation channel mapping across rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and shallow seas. The instrument consists of two primary components: an ultrasonic transducer and a measurement and control unit. The transducer is responsible for emitting and receiving ultrasonic waves, while the control unit analyzes and processes the signals. Its operating principle relies on the fact that ultrasonic waves propagate through water at a constant linear velocity; upon encountering the seabed, they are reflected back. The instrument then automatically calculates the water depth based on the known propagation speed of sound in water and the elapsed time for the signal's round trip.
A standout feature of the portable Water Depth and Temperature Detector is its ability to maintain measurement accuracy even in flowing water. The instrument can perform depth measurements in both static water and water with a certain flow velocity, functioning reliably under conditions where the current speed does not exceed 5 meters per second. This means that hydrological personnel do not need to wait for the water surface to become completely calm before commencing measurement tasks, thereby significantly enhancing the flexibility and efficiency of field operations. The instrument features built-in dedicated large-scale integrated circuits with a surface-mount component rate of 99%. Measurement results are displayed on an LCD screen; the device is characterized by low power consumption and high long-term operational reliability.
Many Water Depth and Temperature Detector models also integrate a water temperature measurement function. Utilizing a thermistor sensor, the instrument can simultaneously measure and display water temperature data, presenting information such as water depth, temperature, latitude and longitude coordinates, and measurement time all on a single screen. The measurement range typically spans from 0 to 200 meters, with a controllable "blind zone" (dead zone) ranging from 0.15 to 1.5 meters, and an accuracy level reaching ±0.3% to ±0.5% of the full scale. The sensor boasts an IP68 protection rating, allowing it to be submerged directly for underwater operations, while the main unit's housing is constructed from ABS engineering plastic, offering excellent impact resistance and corrosion resistance. In practical applications, hydrologists simply need to immerse the ultrasonic transducer into the water and operate the main unit's keypad to quickly obtain water depth data. Measurement results can be exported via USB or printed wirelessly via Bluetooth; furthermore, select models are equipped with a dual-mode BeiDou/GPS positioning function, enabling the simultaneous recording of the geographic coordinates of measurement points. The instrument is powered by a built-in battery, providing sufficient endurance on a single charge to support several hours of continuous field measurements. This design makes it suitable for mounting over the side of small to medium-sized vessels, while also facilitating easy portability for a single individual conducting survey missions in remote waterways.
