Moisture is a term that describes the condition of soil moisture, which is critical to irrigated agriculture and crop growth. Soil moisture, the water content of the soil, is usually expressed as the weight of soil moisture as a percentage of the weight of the drying soil. The relative humidity of the soil reflects the degree of wetness of the soil and guides irrigation decisions.
In practically determining soil moisture, people usually use hand measurement method, which is divided into four levels:
Wet: The soil is very moist and water flows out when squeezed.
Wet: the soil is moist and can form soil balls or strips, but no water flows out.
Wet: the soil feels cool and leaves an impression when lightly pressed.
Dry: soil is dry with no cool sensation, clay soil may clump.
By knowing the soil moisture level, farmers can better manage irrigation to ensure that their crops receive the right amount of water, which promotes healthy crop growth.
Suitable soil moisture for sowing can be determined by two simple methods:
Tactile test: Grab a handful of soil that feels slightly sticky to the touch, but not too wet. The soil is loose and cool to the touch, and can be easily held in a ball, but no water will come out when squeezed, and there are no water droplets between the fingers.
Drop test: The soil can be dropped naturally from chest height, and the soil can be evenly dispersed, neither sticking into a ball nor scattering into dry soil powder.
If the soil reaches the above state during the sowing period, it means that the soil humidity is moderate and very suitable for sowing. Should seize the opportunity to timely sowing. If the soil is too dry or too wet, soil moisture needs to be adjusted by irrigation or drying to achieve the desired moisture level.
The Soil Moisture Monitoring System is a set of intelligent agricultural equipment that can automatically measure soil moisture and temperature, and it continuously monitors soil conditions through sensors. Farmers can use this system to obtain real-time soil information so that they can irrigate and fertilise more scientifically, increase crop yields, avoid wasting resources and achieve precision agriculture.
Among radar rain gauges, the YL4 Radar Rain Gauge utilizes an advanced small flat panel radar module and 24 GHz Doppler radar wave technology to measure the rate of droplet descent during the rainfall process and to differentiate the type and intensity of rain, snow, and hail based on droplet size a...
Ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensors are advanced devices that apply ultrasonic detection technology to gaseous media. The most significant advantage of this sensor over traditional wind cup or rotor anemometers is that it has no mechanical rotating parts, thus enabling inertia-free measureme...
The Mini Ultrasonic Anemometer is applied in multiple industries and provides key data for various environmental monitoring and operations. In meteorology, this kind of sensor provides accurate wind speed and wind direction information. This information is crucial for predicting weather patterns and...
