Ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensors work by measuring the difference in propagation time of ultrasonic waves in different directions to determine wind speed and direction. Specifically:
Ultrasonic waves have different propagation times in the downwind and upwind directions. By comparing the time difference between the ultrasonic waves travelling from North (N) to South (S) and from South (S) to North (N), the wind speed can be calculated and it can be determined that the wind is blowing from North to South.
Similarly, by comparing the time difference between the ultrasonic wave travelling from West (W) to East (E) and from East (E) to West (W), the wind speed and direction information can also be obtained.
